While the NBA is known for their lax policies regarding their players and recreational pot smoking, our friends over in China seem to have a slightly different view when it comes to getting high and playing basketball.

Marcus Williams has been suspended after testing positive for weed, in what the Chinese basketball officials are calling one of the first cases of doping sense the league’s inception back in the mid-1990s.

The primary source for Chinese news – the Xinhua news agency is reporting that the 26-year-old American basketball player – who suits up and plays for the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons was banned for 6 months on Monday after testing positive for marijuana’s cannabinoids shortly before Christmas on Dec. 9.

Williams has been overseas playing basketball in China since 2010. The last time he played for an American NBA team was with the San Antonio Spurs and before that it was the Los Angeles Clippers.
