Marijuana Legalization Backed By The Seattle Times Monday 24 September, 2012

With this coming up November a momentous time for the medical marijuana movement, voters will not be debating if marijuana is good, but instead if the prohibition of marijuana is a good idea. Voters have in their hands if medical marijuana patients will be targeted for arrest, and also if the medical cannabis collectives and providers will face time behind bars. Is the assault on cannabis worth all the tax payers’ dollars which could easily be allocated to education, poverty or hunger?

The Seattle Times has come out in support of marijuana legalization backing Initiative 502, which will legalize, manage and also tax cannabis for the medical cannabis community. They believe that it’s absurd to think of pot-smokers as purveyors of chaos and violence – cannabis prohibition would be legit, but marijuana isn’t lethal and it doesn’t kill anyone. Medicinal pot arouses the mind and induces hunger; stoners don’t go on violent crime sprees or massive overdoses. The same can’t be said about synthetic marijuana, alcohol or prescription pills. People abuse marijuana, just like booze and cigarettes – yet pot is less of a social issue than drunk drivers and Marlboro chain-smokers.

Liberal newspaper went flying to hide under their desks as cannabis legalization for California went to ballot back in 2010. All the dailies and tribunes would not openly endorse marijuana for medicine. The Seattle Times believes the prohibition of cannabis doesn’t work. They feel the route of legalization and regulation — like how beer is taxed — is a far superior policy, and the support of I-502 is a huge leap towards that path of a better tomorrow.
