Another one into the marijuana-suspension archives and this time it’s a Canadian Gymnast – Who’da thunk?
Cory Marsh has been suspended for six months after testing positive for marijuana at the acrobatic would junior championships in Orlando last April — shame the championships fell on 4/20.
After finishing 11th in the men’s pairs event, the positive test for marijuana will negate his efforts. The 18 year old from Ontario, Canada will not be able to step back into the competitive ring until November 22nd says the world governing body of gymnastics — so no crack at this summer’s Olympics.
“There have only been a handful of positive tests for marijuana in his sport over the last 20 years,” says media officer for the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique. They have also went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to dispute the World Anti-Doping Agency contention that a positive testing for cannabis required a 2 year ban from competitive events.
The Federation was also successful in arguing for a Russian athlete that tested positive for marijuana. They successfully contended that cannabis wasn’t a performance-enhancing drug and that 2 years for a positive test – ridiculous and too harsh.
A Federation creating justice…
